MilSpouse Friday Fill-In #53

What a busy week it has been! I have been in Austin, TX, for  a week now – in some work related meetings. And have had so much fun. Sounds crazy but I truly enjoy the 100+F weather, and can’t think about anything better than heading out for a run early in the mornings. No matter how sweaty I might get. The warm (and sunny) weather definitely beats Alaskan grey and rainy days at any time. But let’s look at the MilSpouse Friday Fill-In questions – provided by Wife of A Sailor , as always.

1. The best thing my parents taught me to do when I was a child was _________________.

… always do my best. Regardless the end result, it was important to do my best, and everything else was taken care of by itself. I still believe in this although aim to succeed no matter what – sometimes it may mean doing more than my best.

2. However, one thing I wish they did differently was _________________.

… I hope I had been pushed even harder to catch my dreams. I learned at older age how important it is not to give up, ever. But be persistent beyond persistent. And since I have always been a good student with minimal effort, it was easy to succeed and do my best. However, in some cases it is important to over exceed the goals and expectations.

3. One thing I’ve always wanted to try but haven’t is _________________.

….I would love to climb K2. Maybe one day. And I can’t wait to do my first, full Ironman race. I am pretty sure it won’t be my last though …. working on this goal.

4. One thing I never thought I’d try but I have is _________________.

…hmm, I have always tried everything I have wanted to try. Well, I didn’t see myself doing a bungee jump but I did. Didn’t really enjoy it. I got more excitement from jumping perfectly fine, working airplanes.

5. If I could give my 16-year-old self one piece of advice I’d tell myself _________________.

Believe yourself and your dreams. Nothing is impossible as long as you stay focused and not give up.

Yikes – it’s August! Up here in Alaska the weather has looked not-so-summer’ish for a couple of past day now. Hopefully it is just a temporary change – I sure am not ready for the fall yet. This week we have celebrated my husband’s birthday, and after all the challenges with UPS, his birthday present finally arrived on Wednesday. And ever since he and his brand new iPad2 have been inseparable. He already had the iPad 1 so it is not a brand new thing for him but of course new gadgets are always new gadgets.

But now to the Friday Questions that have been kindly provided by Wife of A Sailor . Instead of regular questions, this Friday the idea is to fill in the blanks.

1. Give a man a fish and he’ll eat for a day, teach a man to fish and ___________________ he will make a great fishing buddy – more time together!

2. It is amazing what you can accomplish if ___________________ set your mind for something and decide to get things done.

3. If you can’t stand the heat ___________________ try living in Alaska over a winter!

4. What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to ___________________ who we are and what we have today.

5. Well behaved women seldom  ___________________ can sit back, tell great stories and say ‘ Woo Hoo, What A Ride”.

Question #5 truly reminds me about my favorite quote ever – the words that I try to live by.

“Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, champagne in one hand – strawberries in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming: WOO HOO, WHAT A RIDE!”

July is almost over. And I am a year older now. Yikes! It was my birthday  yesterday – what a wonderful day it was. Special thanks for it naturally go to my awesome husband and great friends near and far.

But since I already wrote a separate birthday posting, let’s get into questions. The last MilSpouse Friday Fill-In of July 2011 is here, thanks to  Wife of A Sailor !

1. Facebook or Twitter? Facebook. I do have both accounts but I am way too busy to keep myself up-to-date with all the tweets. Besides I like the opportunity to occasionally chat or send longer messages to the people. As well as I manage my friends so much easier by accepting/declining the friend requests.

2. Hard Tacos or Soft Tacos? Soft tacos, preferable with chicken, no cheese, all the dressings & sauces on the side. And oh, corn tortilla, please!

3. Gardening or crafting? Both? I am not very good at either one but occasionally I enjoy gardening, planting flowers and such. And on the other hand I do like quilting and knitting. It really depends on creative mood.

4. Fruit or vegetables? Again, could I have both? I am quite a health nut, so eat fruits and vegetables all the time, and our refrigerator is all the time packed with tomatoes, lettuce, cucumbers, apples, grapes, carrots …

5. Motorcycle or bicycle? I truly enjoy the speed and the feeling of freedom but I still pick the bicycle. Nothing beats the feeling after a bike ride of 70-100 miles – you really feel you have done something. And besides, I have custom built nearly all my bikes, so I have a “special relationship” with them.

Time keeps flying by… it’s less than a week to my birthday, just a couple of days more to the end of July. Getting older horrifies me. And approaching fall makes me wish that summer would never end. I am not ready for short days, chilly weather, and eventually snow… Not yet. But let’s take a look at the MilSpouse Friday Fill-In questions that have been put together by  Wife of A Sailor .

1. Do you eat raw cookie dough? Occasionally if it is chocolate chip cookie dough. And surprisingly I don’t really care about cookies.

2. When you get online for the first time of the day… what site do you immediately head to? I check my emails, followed by CNN news.

3. What was your favorite pet as a child and why? We always had all kinds of animals – pets and farm animals. I think my favorite was our dog that I grew up with. He was a really cool, nice, friendly Mutt.

4. If you had a snail that could magically grant wishes, what would you name it? Sam The Snail.

5 How many licks does it take to get to the center of a Tootsie Roll Pop? I have no clue. I have never had a Tootsie Roll Pop, and don’t really care about sweets.

The life is finally getting back to normal after the wedding weekend. Although this week turned out to be super busy with all the work meetings, deadlines and such. So not a surprise that I am quite a bit behind with my blog updates, and reading others’ blogs. But I’ll get there …. meanwhile, let’s look at the MilSpouse Friday Fill-In questions. Thanks  Wife of A Sailor  for putting this together once again!

1. If you could have a private concert with any singer, who would it be?   (submitted by  An Air Force Wife’s Blog ) My music taste varies quite a bit, so I would have a hard time to pick between Josh Groban and George Strait. Classical or country… could I have both? Not at the same time though!

2. Is there anything you do to supplement your family’s income?  (submitted by  Our Life, One Adventure at a Time ) I think I am actually contributing to our household income, not supplementing. I have built a professional career in large corporations, and have been successfully working in various international positions in my field for over a decade.

3. During your pregnancy (whether past, present, or future), what did you nickname your unborn baby before you knew the sex?  (submitted by  Explosions of Love ) We don’t have kids, and I have never even thought about this.

4. Have you ever won a blog giveaway?  If so what did you win?   (submitted by  Mrs. O’s Life ) Nope. And I am really lazy to participate in giveaway’s.

5. If I looked into your refrigerator right now, what would I find? (submitted by  Married to the Army ) Lots of vegetables and other healthy food. Some leftovers from our wedding reception last weekend – probably not edible anymore. In general we eat super healthy: vegetables and fruits, low fat food, whole grain products and so on. I guess that happens when there is a fitness and health nut in the household.
